The Iowa District Export Council is a diverse group of volunteer trade professionals dedicated to helping you develop export sales and thus contribute to the National Export Program.
We are successful exporters, accountants, lawyers, freight forwarders, bankers, trade professionals, academics, and members of local government. We pool our knowledge to provide a source of professional real-world advice to businesses and the state’s international trade community.
The Iowa DEC, and its partner DECs nationwide, provide leadership and trade expertise to complement the U.S. Commercial Service’s export promotion work. We represent the interests of the U.S. exporting community and provide business mentoring on the export process, trade education through our online export training resources, plus workshops, seminars and community outreach to encourage Iowa firms to export.
We follow a value and results-driven approach to serve as a model for fellow District Export Councils nationally and adhere to the goals of:
- Promoting export opportunities
- Advocating trade promotion policies
- Supporting businesses in achieving export successes

Export Assistance
The DEC helps Iowa companies develop global business in several ways:
- DEC members share their international business experience, through mentoring, and a wide variety of events and programs.
- DEC/USCS collaboration lets it complement their services to help companies enter new overseas markets.
- DEC partner organizations deliver a broad range of export assistance services, and
- DEC online resources are offered on the Export-U training website.

Nominations
Members of DEC are all volunteers appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. Members serve four-year renewable terms. Nominations of individuals believed to be suitable candidates for membership should be forwarded to the DEC’s Executive Secretary for consideration.
